The most recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase happened earlier today. While most people disregard the third-party Directs due to them not showing any first-party titles such as Super Mario or The Legend of Zelda, today’s presentation revealed many games and ports that players have been hoping for since the Nintendo Switch 2 was first announced, including Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
If you have no interest in ports of previously released games, today’s showcase might not have appealed to you, but I have been waiting to play the likes of Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered in handheld mode for a long time now.
However, the biggest takeaway from the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase is that it may have hinted that Part 3 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy may not be too far away. In fact, we could see it within the next year.
During the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, it was announced that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second part of the Remake trilogy, will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 3, 2026. This comes less than six months after the release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the Switch 2.
Although Square Enix has previously revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would be released in 2026, for it to release so soon after Final Fantasy 7 Remake does point to Part 3 not being too far behind.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has yet to be officially revealed by Square Enix, with many expecting a trailer to be shown during The Game Awards, but the event came and went without the game making an appearance. However, it has been confirmed that the title of the game has now been chosen and is set in stone, according to creative director Tetsuya Nomura. Current speculation is that the name will likely either be Return or Reunion.
With there only being just over five months between the Switch 2 ports of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth, 2026 will be dominated by the series for many gamers. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is approximately 40 hours long, not counting INTERmission, and Rebirth takes a staggering 100-120 hours to complete for the first time.
It does seem like there is a reason that Square Enix is pushing both games onto players in such a short space of time, and that is likely because Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is set to be released in early 2027, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the iconic 1997 original.
There has been speculation for a long time that 2027 will be the likely release window, especially as there were four years between the first two games, and developers said that Part 3 would take less time to release, with the story being completed over a year ago.

All signs do point to a 2027 release date, and this just continues to add fuel to the fire, although it means we may not see the reveal for Part 3 until after Rebirth launches on Nintendo Switch 2, with NateTheHate predicting it’ll be announced at Summer Game Fest, which begins just two days after Rebirth’s Switch 2 release.
There has been some good news, though, for those who don’t own a PlayStation 5. Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will launch on all platforms simultaneously, rather than being a PS5 timed-exclusive. This means that we can expect to see the game release on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2 at the same time.
