With the 30th anniversary of Final Fantasy 7 in early 2027, Square Enix is hard at work concluding the Remake trilogy, while also continuing to bring it to new platforms as Part 1 is set to launch on Switch 2 next week.
Switch 2 players will be able to take the fight to Shinra as they take control of Cloud, Barrett, Tifa, and Aerith as they explore Midgar and uncover the truth about Jenova and Sephiroth.
Part 2 was initially released in 2024 and saw players continue through Disc 1 of the original game, ending with one of the most iconic video game moments. Unfortunately, Switch 2 players won’t be able to experience this moment when Final Fantasy 7 Remake launches next week, but they may be able to sooner rather than later.

Naoki Hamaguchi, the Director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, has taken to X to give Switch 2 players a huge update on the future of the series on Nintendo’s latest handheld ahead of the release of Remake on January 22.
In a post responding to Stealth40K, Hamaguchi told fans that he is “truly grateful for the interest and support from so many Nintendo game fans” as the game is currently sitting in the #2 spot on the Switch 2 eShop chart.
He then confirmed to players that “Rebirth, and the final installment will also be coming to Switch 2,” concluding his post saying “I hope you’ll join me and experience the conclusion of the FFVII story together.”
Although it was expected, this confirmation is great news for Switch 2 players and will help to encourage gamers to check out Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the console, knowing that they will also be able to experience the rest of the story without switching platforms.
Xbox players will also be able to jump into Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the same date for the first time. Rebirth and Part 3 will also be released on Xbox Series X, with the former scheduled to arrive sometime in 2026.
Fans of Final Fantasy can currently play Remake and Rebirth on PC via Steam and Epic Game Store, as well as PS5, where the games have seen timed exclusivity at launch. This will also be the case for Part 3 due to Sony helping to fund the initial entry in the series.

However, Rebirth’s exclusivity window was much shorter than Remake’s, meaning that we could see Part 3 on all platforms only months after launch. Final Fantasy 7 fans may have a while to wait, though, as the game has yet to be officially revealed, although it has been stated that Square Enix is making great progress on development due to being able to reuse large amounts of assets and code.
With Final Fantasy 7’s 29th anniversary just two weeks away, it is possible that we could see the reveal of Part 3, including its official title, on this date as Square Enix celebrates one of the most iconic video games of all time.
